COX’S BAZAR – Three members of a Hindu family were injured following a violent confrontation with alleged land grabbers who attempted to illegally occupy their property near the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp in Cox’s Bazar.
The incident highlights continuing concerns regarding the safety of minority communities and the security of their property rights in the region.
The Incident
According to local sources, a group of miscreants descended upon the disputed land located adjacent to the BGB camp area. The perpetrators reportedly attempted to seize control of the property, which has been owned and occupied by the Hindu family for an extended period.
Witnesses state that when the family members resisted the illegal occupation, the situation escalated into violence. The attackers allegedly assaulted the residents, leaving three individuals with varying degrees of injuries.
Aftermath and Medical Status
The injured victims were rescued by locals and transported to the nearest hospital for treatment. While the specific identities of the victims have not yet been released to the media, authorities have been notified of the assault.
Local community leaders have condemned the attack, describing it as part of a troubling pattern of intimidation aimed at minority landowners. Tensions remain high in the area as the family seeks legal recourse and protection against further encroachment.
Context of Land Disputes
Land grabbing remains a critical issue in Cox’s Bazar, often exacerbated by soaring land values and the influence of powerful local syndicates. Minority families are frequently targeted, facing intimidation tactics designed to force them off their ancestral lands.
Police authorities are expected to investigate the matter, though no arrests had been confirmed immediately following the incident. Community members are demanding a swift investigation and the immediate apprehension of those responsible for the violence.
