NARSINGDI, BANGLADESH – In a brazen act of violence in the remote char area of Raipura Upazila, a 42-year-old gold trader was shot and killed by unidentified miscreants on Tuesday night.

The victim, identified as Prantosh Karmakar (also reported as Prantush Sarkar), was a resident of Dighliakandi village in the Banshgari Union. He owned a jewelry shop in the local Banshgari New Market.

The Incident

According to local sources and family members, the incident occurred between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM on December 2, 2025. Prantosh was at his residence when two unknown individuals called him outside.

Trusting the callers, he accompanied them to the nearby Dighliakandi Government Primary School field. Shortly after arriving at the school grounds, the assailants opened fire, leaving him critically injured with bullet wounds.

Medical and Police Response

Locals and relatives rushed Prantosh to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital in an attempt to save his life. However, upon arrival, the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Dr. Asad Abdullah Khan, the medical officer at the hospital, confirmed that the victim was brought in deceased. “Relatives mentioned bullet injuries, but the exact cause and nature of the wounds will be confirmed after the autopsy,” he stated.

Investigation Underway

Law enforcement officials, including Raipura Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Prabir Kumar Ghosh and Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sujan Chandra Sarkar, confirmed the incident.

Police have visited the crime scene to collect evidence. While the motive remains unclear, authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators. “We are treating this with high importance. The motive and those responsible will be identified through investigation,” said Additional SP Sujan Chandra Sarkar.

Family in Shock

The victim’s family expressed deep shock and confusion regarding the motive behind the murder. Hena Rani Sarkar, the victim’s sister-in-law, stated, “We have no known enemies. We do not know who called him out or why they would do this. We demand justice for this killing.”

The body has been sent to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. As of now, no arrests have been reported, and tensions remain high in the locality following the murder.
