Violent Attack on RAB Member’s Family in Panchagarh: Cash, Gold, and Documents Looted

A shocking incident unfolded in Panchagarh’s Dangapara area as a RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) member’s family was assaulted by an armed group in a pre-planned attack. The assailants looted large sums of cash, gold ornaments, and valuable documents. The incident has sparked widespread concern over security and justice in rural areas.

According to the complaint:

• Around 20–25 attackers, led by Hamidul Islam, stormed the home of Ramesh Chandra Roy (father of Profulla Roy).
• The group was armed with:
o Machetes (দা)
o Sickle knives (হাসুয়া)
o Rods
o Crowbars (সাবল)
o Axes (কুড়াল)
o Bamboo sticks
• The attackers:
o Vandalized household property
o Physically assaulted family members
o Violated the dignity of women present in the house
o Looted:
 BDT 200,000 in cash
 Approximately 3 vori (≈35 grams) of gold ornaments
 Land deeds and critical legal documents

Possible Motive: Land Dispute
• Locals reported a long-standing land dispute between the families of Hamidul Islam and Ramesh Chandra Roy.
• This feud had led to two previous legal cases, according to local police.

Statements from the Victims

• Ramesh Chandra Roy:
“They came with the intent to kill us. We’re living in fear. Our safety is at risk.”

• Profulla Roy (RAB Member):
“I came home on April 24 during my leave and was preparing to join 40 BGB. But just two days later, they deliberately targeted me and attacked. I demand justice.”

“This is related to a prior land dispute. We are actively conducting operations to arrest the accused.”
