A 20-year-old youth was fatally attacked with a sharp weapon following a minor quarrel over paddy drying in Dirai Upazila of Sunamganj. The incident occurred at around 6:30 PM on Saturday in Bausi village under Tyrol Union.

How the Incident Unfolded

  • On the evening of the incident, Polash Das, elder brother of the deceased, was bagging dried paddy near their home.
  • His neighbor Md. Shakil, son of Chan Mia, was working beside him.
  • A verbal argument began between the two over paddy collection, which escalated into a brief physical altercation.
  • In anger, Shakil threatened Polash and ran home.
  • Moments later, he returned with a sulfi (a sharp iron weapon).
  • Unable to find Polash, Shakil attacked Pranto Das, stabbing him in the left side of the chest.
  • Pranto died on the spot due to the fatal wound.

Medical Confirmation

  • Family members rushed him to Dirai Upazila Health Complex.
  • Dr. Moni Rani Talukder, the attending physician, confirmed Pranto was dead on arrival.

Police Action

  • According to Dirai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Abdur Razzak:
    • A surveillance report was prepared.
    • The body has been sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
    • Police are conducting raids to arrest the accused, Md. Shakil.
